Overall Purpose

To honor in perpetuity those who by their participation in and association with athletics at the College, and by their demonstration of character, sportsmanship, and service to the community, have won personal distinction and brought honor and glory to sports and to the City College of the City University of New York.
 


I. Selection Comittee for Designees to the Hall of Fame

A. The Selection Committee shall consist of members of the Board of Directors of the AVA, provided that they have attended a minimum of one meeting in the current fiscal year or two meetings in the prior year. Additionally, all past Presidents of the AVA are eligible to vote.

B. The President of the AVA shall be the chairperson of the Selection Committee.

1. Eleven (11) members of the Selection Committee shall constitute a quorum.

2. The vote of a majority of those present in person shall be necessary for action by the Selection Committee.

C. The Selection Committee shall consider nominees to the Hall of Fame submitted by Sub-Committees for all College sports, past of present.

D. The Selection Committee shall base its consideration of nominees for the Hall of Fame on the Overall purposes hereof and shall use the following guidelines

1. The primary consideration shall be outstanding athletic achievement as an undergraduate; however, the reflection of honor on the College by outstanding post-graduate success in athletics or related fields of endeavor shall also be considered.

2. Supporting consideration shall be given to the qualities of the nominee with respect to character, sportsmanship, and service to the College and to the community.

E. The names of those elected to the Hall of Fame shall be announced with an appropriate ceremony by the Board of Directors of the Alumni Varsity Association.

 

II. Nominations for Election to the Hall of Fame

 

A. Sub-Committees of College Sports

1. The President of the AVA, with the approval of the Board of Directors of the AVA, shall have the power to designate a Sub-Committee in each College sport to serve for the purpose of nominating nominees for consideration by the Selection Committee to the Hall of Fame in accordance with the following:
a. Each Sub-Committee shall have a chairperson.

b. Each Sub-Committee shall have no less than three (3) members.

 

2. The approval of a majority of each Sub-Committee shall be required for each nominee designated for selection by the Selection Committee.

3. Only designees of the Sub-Committee may be considered by the Selection Committee except upon the approval of the Board of Directors of the AVA.

B. Nominations for election to the Hall of Fame shall be submitted by the Sub-Committees to the Board of Directors of the Alumni Varsity Association annually on or before November 17th, but in no event may any regular Sub- Committee submit more than two (2) nominations at any time.

1. The President of the Alumni Varsity Association shall forthwith submit the nominations of the Sub- Committee to the Selection Committee with supporting data for each nominee, and not later than the first week in December shall designate a date not earlier than (10) days thereafter for the holding of a meeting of the Selection Committee at which all nominations submitted shall be considered.

2. Each nomination must be fully supported by details contained on a summary form prepared and submitted with biographical sketch to the President of the Alumni Varsity Association for transmittal to the Selection Committee.

3. The Selection Committee shall vote upon the nominees for election to the Hall of Fame not later than December 8th annually.

III. Miscellaneous Rules and Regulations

A. In any year, no more than seven (7) persons shall be elected to the Hall of Fame, no more than two (2) of whom may be designated in any one sport. No designee may be considered sooner than five (5) years following graduation of the person's undergraduate class.

B. In addition to the maximum of seven regular electees to the Hall of Fame, an Oldtimers Committee, consisting of three (3) members appointed annually by the President of the AVA, shall nominate persons whose classes graduated over thirty (30) years ago. Alternatively, an Oldtimer may be considered for regular admission. No more than three (3) Oldtimers may be elected to the Hall of Fame in any year.

C. The Committee shall submit its nominations, based on the guidelines of Article I, Section D, fully supported by biographical data, on a timely basis to the President of the AVA for transmittal to the Selection Committee for approval.

D. If, in any year, fewer than seven (7) regular nominees and/or three (3) Oldtimers shall receive less than a majority vote of the Selection Committee, only those persons receiving such majority shall be elected.

E. These Rules and Regulations may be amended or altered in whole or in part from time to time by the affirmative vote of two-thirds (2/3) of the Directors present at a duly constituted meeting or the Board of Directors of the Alumni Varsity Association.
